Modern Coating System For Wooden Gutters

There are certain things that were commonplace years ago which because of a variety of different reasons have evolved to something much different today than yesteryear.

Think of the typewriter as an example.

Anyone under the age of 40 (and perhaps even older!) may find it hard to believe that we once did school papers, wrote books, and did almost anything that would fall under the umbrella of “typing” today on these non-electronic machines which we all prayed that we would not significantly mess up on the last typed line before finishing our work – hence causing us to rip the paper out of the typewriter in frustration, crumple it up, toss it over our shoulder, and start from the top again.

I’m sure the overwhelming majority of us who remember those tense typing sessions certainly appreciate the ease of using the computers of today where ‘White Out’ is not necessary and simply ‘Backspacing’ or ‘Deleting’ allows us to create the very same documents with a whole lot lower level of anxiety.

Something similar to this in the realm of ‘Home Improvement’ would be the way that we treat the inside of wooden gutters.

Whereas years ago in order to truly keep up with the maintenance of our wooden gutters, you had to carefully clean, prep, and ‘Linseed Oil’ their insides at least once per year (and the really ambitious may have done it twice!), there is a more modern way to preserve and maintain the inside of these beautiful features without having to remember to do the annual treatment and at the same time hope for weather conducive for doing it!

These days, being as busy as we often are in our society, the last thing many of us want to have to remember to do is to maintain yet another item on our home or else face the potential consequences of neglect showing their face as rotted wood, which can lead to water flowing into our house in an unwanted capacity.

The treatment for wooden gutters which our company came up with a little while back would be as follows:

– Make sure the inside of the gutter is clean & dry

– Properly prep the inside of the gutters

– Apply a coat of oil-based primer to stabilize the wooden gutter’s interior

– Use specialized seam tape to bridge seams wherever needed

– Apply two coats of the GACO liquified silicone roof system

This can be a bit of work and perhaps also a bit challenging to do depending on how difficult it is to get to where the wooden gutters are at on the home – not as challenging however as having to do a similar annual treatment with Linseed Oil!

For in doing this liquified silicone system once, you would not have to repeat it again.

Although not originally intended to use on wood gutters, utilizing a liquified silicone roofing system to seal the inside of the wooden gutters in comparison to the older Linseed Oil treatments is really as advantageous to the homeowner as a computer is to an author of a book vs. having to still use a typewriter.

Though in both cases, you could still do things the “old” way if you wanted to – you can still Linseed Oil your gutters every year just as the author could still use a typewriter.

While these both certainly can still be used as approaches, I prefer the computer when writing just as I prefer a liquified silicone system protecting the inside of a wooden gutter.

Do it once, then do not have to worry about it again.

While every once in a while, you may want to pop your head over your wooden gutter systems to make sure everything seems ok, utilizing this prescribed method would definitely help ease the burden of remembering to treat the inside of your wooden gutters each year and then to physically accomplish the task there afterward.
