Why Snow Is Fool’s Gold

When I was growing up (by the way, I hate to sound like “that guy”…), as like many folks, our household was quite busy.

Between multiple siblings, school, activities, work, etc. the day-in and day-out house environment was quite “lived-in”.

With exhaustive schedules, the tidiness of the home was something that seemed like we were all ‘fighting the tide’ with.

So much so that when we had family get-togethers at the house (birthday parties and things along those lines), cleaning the house often looked like shoving items “temporarily” into places they really did not belong out of the convenience of necessity.

Think – bedroom belongings shoved into closets and under beds, pots & pans waiting to be cleaned stashed in the oven, and numerous other examples of these types of things.

Though the house may look clean at first glance to someone visiting, the pristine appearance was nothing more than ‘Fool’s Gold’.

Similarly, when we receive a blanket of snow across our region, it often hides, and unfortunately delays, the inevitable.

Many folks enjoy the appearance of new-fallen snow – particularly the first snow of the season – and the way it seems to provide a serene appearance to the chaotic environment which we all seem to operate in on a daily basis.

The challenge of course is that although the snow may seem to provide a picturesque scene utilizing the Earth as its canvas, it is hiding (and possibly delaying from being addressed) items that really attention.

While many of the repairs we conduct we are able to do year-round (roofing, carpentry, and the like), snow often briefly sets back thought processes of getting needed repairs either done or scheduled to be done.

Recognizing this, this is actually a tremendous opportunity to speak with folks in the home improvement industry and work toward getting on their calendars.

Whether they are exterior repairs such as a roof, a leak needing correcting, or a series of rotted wood, or interior repairs such as a kitchen or bathroom update, windows needing to be replaced, or a room in need of painting, because so many put off thinking about addressing these types of things in the middle of Winter, times when “snow falls” are actually the PERFECT opportunity to have the conversation about getting on someone’s schedule.

This has been a repetitive cycle, which I certainly have observed since we opened up shop in 1995.

Those that have planned properly have the best shot of getting their project scheduled at the most ideal time.

February is certainly far too late if you would like a project to be guaranteed to be done in the “Spring”.

March is almost impossible to make this happen.

While it is absolutely conceivable that people reaching out to folks in those months could connect with a viable Contractor and somehow arrange for their project to be done by the Spring, January is actually the key to really ensuring that those wanting projects done by or in the Spring are able to most likely lock in their ideal timeslot.

There is no doubt that snow can be breathtakingly pretty, but if you are someone that has a budding home improvement project which you are planning on having done in the near future, DO NOT fall victim to the Fool’s Gold that encourages procrastination.

Instead, I very much implore you to take advantage of the downtime and work through the discipline of figuring things out and scheduling NOW before you miss out on YOUR most ideal time to have your project completed.
